Whether you need a slight push out of that comfort zone, or if you’re just super excited to put on your travelling shoes and you fancy some more further inspiration.
We have provided five fantastic books to pick up and read for those bookworms out there.
1. The Rules of Life - Richard Templar

Whether you’re a fan of self-help books or not, this one is a great, easy-to-read book. Quick story, I used to follow Anthony Joshua, the Boxing Heavyweight Champion, on Snapchat. One day, he took a snap of ‘The Rules of Life’ and added it to his Snapchat story, so I thought I’d order it to be more like Joshua (I get inspired too easy).
There was one powerful chapter; ‘RULE 14 - I Wish I’d Done That – and I will’. During this time of my life, most of my mates were either working a 9-5 job or were anxiously applying for graduate jobs. Everyone around me was just stressing. It’s one of those cliché chapters about not having any regrets but it was reflective in my situation. After reading the following:
“For example, if you’re thinking “I wish I’d taken a year off before college and travelled to China like so and so did,” then you’re clearly not going to be able to reverse time. But could you get a sabbatical for six months and go now? Could you take a longer-than-usual vacation and go (with family if necessary)?”
“Obviously, if the regret is that you didn’t win an Olympic 400m gold medal because you gave up athletics at 14, it’s not going to happen if you’re now 34. What you can do is resolve not to let any more opportunities pass you by. So, you can choose to book those scuba diving lessons and, in doing so, ensure that you won’t be saying, “I wish I’d learned to dive” in another 20 years’ time.”
After reading this page I put the book down, messaged my best friend and told him I was going travelling that year. And I did.
2. The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho

One of the most-read books in recent history. A great book about following your dreams. One that teaches you that the simple things in life are sometimes the most extraordinary and to not give up if you fail.
It follows the story of a young shepherd boy travelling from Spain to Egypt, who follows his heart to find the meaning of life. In the process, the shepherd boy goes through many ups and downs but along the way, he learns about love and the meaning of life.
“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” - Paulo Coelho
3. Shoe Dog - Phil Knight

Phil had this crazy idea while he was at college. His idea was about Japanese shoes becoming very popular in America in the future. He couldn’t get his idea out of his head. He saw it as a big opportunity.
After finishing college, Phil decided to travel around the world for a year. He wandered the tropical beaches of Hawaii and flew all over Europe, Asia and Egypt. This helped him gain further inspiration. Before heading home, he decided to stop by Japan. He was so determined to pursue his crazy idea. And thus, Nike was born.
Many people come across new ideas and visions while travelling. You will too!
“The only time you must not fail is the last time you try.” - Phil Knight
Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway - Susan Jeffers

If you have a hard time making decisions in life or in need of becoming a more positive person, then this book is for you. According to Susan Jeffers, here are 5 facts about fear:
1. As long as you are growing, you will feel fear.
2. To remove a fear, you must face it.
3. It is less scary to face your fear than to hide from it.
4. It feels good to master your fear.
5. Everyone feels fear
For me, the two scariest things I’ve ever come across in my life were:
1. Getting on that plane to Australia knowing I was stepping into the unknown
AND
2. Skydiving out of a plane at 15,000 feet in the air.
Those two things ended up being the best experiences of my life. I had only wished I skydived sooner. I spent months and months debating it and getting worked up about it which was affecting my headspace. Once it was done, I found it laughable how worked up I used to get about it.
Remember…
“Pushing through fear is less frightening than living with the underlying circumstances that come from a feeling of helplessness” - Susan Jeffers
5. Vagabonding - Rolf Potts

We’ve saved the best to last. Rolf Potts is the Godfather of Vagabonding. Vagabonding is essentially the act of leaving the ordinary behind to go and travel. It is a great modern tool for knowing the ins and outs of travelling.
Not only does he talk about the importance of travelling but he describes everything you need to be aware of, from the moment you step on that plane to the minute you get back home. Whether you’re looking at ways of budgeting, looking for work abroad, planning your trips, adapting and learning the different cultures. He includes it all.
If you want to maximise your travelling experience, we recommend you give this book a read.
“Life on the road, you’ll soon discover, is far less complicated than what you knew back home” - Rolf Potts
Hope you picked up some sort of inspiration from these book recommendations. If there are any books you think we’ve missed, then drop us a message.
